  70. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

  72. The OWL Business OperationS Suite is comprised of two programs, OWL Basic
  73. Bookkeeping and OWL Automated Sales and Invoicing System (OASIS).

  75. WHAT IS OWL BASIC BOOKKEEPING (BBK)?
  76.  
  77. BBK is an easy to use single entry accounting system that provides
  78. organized and accurate accounting. The "single entry" is especially
  79. suited for small businesses and individuals.

  81. BBK helps you manage your bottom line by giving you instant access to
  82. up-to-the-minute reports showing your income, expenses, profits and
  83. losses.  You don't need to be an accountant to use BBK.
  84.  
  85. BBK can handle up to 1000 different expense types and supports both
  86. calendar and fiscal year accounting.  BBK's accounting folders allow
  87. independent bookkeeping for multiple businesses or multiple business
  88. elements within the same business.

  90. An import option within Basic Bookkeeping links the program to OASIS
  91. allowing direct transfer of income data from OASIS into Basic
  92. Bookkeeping.

  94. WHAT IS OASIS?
  95.  
  96. OASIS (OWL Automated Sales and Invoicing System) is a complete sales
  97. management system that includes: invoicing, automated billing, customer
  98. correspondence, mailing list management, and sales tracking.  OASIS
  99. Features:

  101. Intuitive menus that minimize typing.  For example, to create an invoice
  102. you simply choose the customer and products sold from a series of menus.
  103. OASIS fills in the invoice and computes the sales tax for you.
  104.  
  105. Customer tracking.  Customer profile reports show each customer, the
  106. items they have purchased and the dates each item was purchased.
  107.  
  108. Sales tracking.  Product sales reports give a complete picture of the
  109. products that are selling and those that are not.  The Buyers report
  110. shows you the names of customers who have purchased a particular product.
  111.  
  112. Mailing list management.  Customers can be separated into up to 100
  113. groups. Mailing labels and mail merge files can be generated for any
  114. combination of one or more groups of customers.  This feature lets you
  115. target your mass mailings to just those customers who are most likely to
  116. respond to a given mailing.

  118. OASIS can be configured to automatically compute two sales taxes (e.g.,
  119. Canadian GST and PST).
  120.  
  121. Income data entered into OASIS can be imported into OWL Basic Bookkeeping
  122. to provide complete tracking of both sales income and business expenses.

  163. UPGRADING FROM BBK and/or OASIS for DOS.

  165. Complete instructions for upgrading your data files from DOS
  166. versions of BBK and/or OASIS are contained in the on-line
  167. user's guides.  When installing DO NOT install BBK and OASIS
  168. for Windows in the same directory where your DOS version of
  169. BBK and/or OASIS resides.

  172. REINSTALLING or UPGRADING from earlier Windows Versions.
  173.  
  174. If you are upgrading from earlier Windows Versions of BBK
  175. and/or OASIS or are reinstalling the program(s), we strongly
  176. advise that you run the Backup Data option(s) in the
  177. previously installed program(s) prior to installation.  This
  178. way, if you make a mistake during installation and
  179. accidentally overwrite your data files, you will be able to
  180. restore your data.

  183. INSTALLATION
  184.  
  185. To install BBK and/or OASIS, use the Program Manager to run
  186. boss4644.exe.  For example, if you are installing from drive A:
  187.  
  188. 1.   From the Program Manager File menu or Windows 95 Start
  189.      menu, choose Run.
  190. 2,   In the Run dialog box, type "A:\boss4644" and choose OK.
  191.  
  192. The setup program offers the following installation options:
  193.  
  194. 1.   Installation Directory?  If you already have a copy of
  195.      BBK for Windows or OASIS for Windows on your hard disk,
  196.      then choose the directory where they presently reside.
  197.      The default is C:\OWL_BUS.
  198. 2.   Programs to Install?  You may install BBK, OASIS or
  199.      both BBK and OASIS.
  200. 3.   Backup Replaced Files?:  Select "Yes" if you would like
  201.      the setup program to make backup copies of all files
  202.      that are replaced during the installation.
  203. 4.   BBK Full or Upgrade Installation?  If you are
  204.      installing to the same drive and directory where BBK
  205.      for Windows was previously installed then choose the
  206.      Upgrade Installation option.  This will prevent your
  207.      existing BBK data files from being overwritten.
  208. 5.   OASIS Full or Upgrade Installation?  If you are
  209.      installing to the same drive and directory where OASIS
  210.      for Windows was previously installed then choose the
  211.      Upgrade Installation option.  This will prevent your
  212.      existing OASIS data files from being overwritten.

  218. provided to help you become familiar with the various
  219. options and capabilities of the program.  The sample data
